The Vincentian Sisters of Charity, now the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, founded the St. Louise Convent in the heart of McCandless decades ago. Generations of Sisters lived, worked, taught, and cared for others within those walls and were nourished by meals produced out of the convent’s kitchen.
While those Sisters have since moved on, the desire to keep that spirit alive and evolve the convent’s kitchen to serve a new purpose was born. Not only does it serve a new need, but the space itself is reinvigorated and repurposed to lessen environmental impact. Located within St. Louise Convent, the Unconventional Kitchen is both rich with history and an innovative reimagination of care for the community.
